About the city

Düsseldorf is located on the banks of the River Rhine, in the northwest of Germany.
Dating back to 1159, the capital of Nordrhein Westfalen is a flourishing commercial centre and the fashion capital of GermanyIt is also famous for producing glass, textiles and boasts Germany's first skyscraper, the Wilhelm-Marx-Haus, built in 1924.
The city is home to several museums and the library holds a collection of works by the poet Heinrich Heine.

Art:
Düsseldorf offers several interesting art museums: 3 of the best: the Kunstmuseum, the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen with its big modern art collection (Klee, Kandinsky, Beckman, Miro and Warhol) and the Kunsthalle.The Goethe-Museum and the Heinrich-Heine-Institut are definitely worth a visit.

Culture:
The restored Rathaus, the early baroque St Andreas Kirche and the St Lambertus Basilika. Barbarossa´s ancient Imperial Palace at Kaiserswerth. Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Schauspielhaus, the Kammerspiele...

Eating & drinking:
There are quite a few excellent restaurants and bars in the Altstadt. "Brauerei im Füchschen", real German food and a great atmosphere, "Im goldenen Kessel", "Zum Schlüssel".

Shopping:
The Königsallee or "Kö", certainly the most stylish catwalk in Germany.

Excursions:
Baroque palace at Benrath with park. Cologne and Aachen.
